Accelerated Reader – This committee helps the Media Specialist with executing the Accelerated Reading program. Volunteers may be asked to communicate reading results to students and teachers, distribute prizes, label books, etc as requested by the Media Specialist and committee chair.
All Pro Dads – The purpose of this committee is to encourage, strengthen and support the efforts of male involvement in the education of children. All Pro Dads is a nonprofit organization sponsored by the NFL. This program encourages men to bond with their children by utilizing sports figures and community leaders to share their stories of success. Men and children meet once monthly or quarterly at a local restaurant for breakfast.
Appreciations – This committee is responsible for showing appreciation to the office staff, nurses, cafeteria staff, custodial staff, teachers and bus drivers during designated weeks throughout the year.
Art Show/Cultural Arts Night – This committee is responsible for working with the IKES Art Department to coordinate an Art Show and/or Cultural Arts Night. Volunteers will work PTA to plan and execute the event.
Beautification – Member of this committee will volunteer their time, knowledge and services to maintain the beautiful landscape around the school.
Bingo Night – Committee members will plan at least one, possibly two, Bingo Nights. Volunteers will work with other committees as needed to plan a fun family night at the school.
Book Fair – This committee helps execute the two Scholastic Book Fairs which take place in the fall and spring. Activities including set-up, unpacking books, helping students find books, working during the events, take-down, and packing books up for pick-up.
Business Relations – This committee is responsible to establishing relationships with local businesses and developing a partnership with them.
Cash for Trash – The Cash for Trash program is a program in which households save various food labels such as Box Tops for Education and Campbell's soup labels. Committee members will collect labels, count and send the labels to the respective manufacturer. The school receives money for each label returned.
Community Outreach – This committee will be involved with outreach plans in response to needs of the community. Activities may include holiday collections for needy families, food drives, clothing drives, beautification projects, and other community service projects.
Cupid Grams – This committee will plan the Cupid Grams program as a Valentine's Day activity. The program allows a parent to send a little note to their child, or a student can send a note, or Cupid Gram, to friends or teachers.
Directory – This committee is responsible for collecting student information from the room parents as needed, collating the data, and preparing the directory for the publisher. You may also assist with the Directory Cover contest.
Family Engagement – The goal is to strengthen, support, and sustain the involvement of parents in the lives of their children. Volunteers will seek ways to engage families. Members will work with other committees to ensure parent and community involvement all PTA programs and events. Committee will also reach out to families new to Indian Knoll and help them to get involved in PTA.
Family Math Night - Committee members will work with the Math team to plan a family fun night centered on math activities. The math team includes a teacher, PTA board member, students, etc. You will help facilitate this event as a team.
Family Reading Night - Committee members will work with the Reading team to plan a family fun night centered on reading activities. The reading team includes a teacher, PTA board member, students, etc. You will help facilitate this event as a team.
Family Science Night – Committee members will work with the Science team to plan a family fun night centered on science activities. The science team includes a teacher, PTA board member, students, etc. You will help facilitate this event as a team.
Fun Run – Committee members will plan a Fun Run to be held in the fall. This is our primary fundraiser for the school year. Volunteers will help promote and plan the event. Volunteers will also work during the Fun Run as needed.
Go Green – This committee will strive to increase knowledge and awareness about the earth's environment. Volunteers will promote Earth Day (April 22), Georgia Arbor Day (third Friday in February), and America Recycles Day (November 15).
Health & Safety – This committee plans ways to present and promote healthy habits and other health-related information to students and their families. You will also coordinate activities for Dental Week and Vision & Hearing Screenings. You may also promote healthy eating, hand-washing techniques, sun safety, playground safety, etc.
Helping Hands – This committee is responsible for assisting other committees by finding volunteers to help with activities at school or from home. You will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator whenever there is a need. You may be called upon to help any of the committees listed here.
Holiday Shop – Students are allowed to shop during the holiday season to purchase low-cost gifts for their loved ones. Committee members will plan the event including purchasing the items or working with the Business Relations committee to request donations.
Hospitality – This committee supports other committees by creating fantastic events with delicious food and beautiful décor! You are responsible for helping the Appreciations committee with the Teacher Appreciation luncheon, staff appreciation, special guest events and volunteer appreciation.
Lead Grade Parent – The lead grade parent helps to gather and disseminate information between teachers, PTA and room parents, especially regarding parties, special events and other school activities such as Spring Fling and Field Day. One volunteer from each grade level is needed.
Legislation/Advocacy – The mission of PTA is to be “A powerful voice for all children,” “A relevant resource for families and communities,” and “A strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.” This committee will help the Committee Chair to stay informed about legislative issues that impact children, and inform others about how they can be an advocate for children.
Media Center Volunteers – Members of this committee will volunteer their time in the media center, assisting with shelving books, helping students find books, etc. You will be contacted regarding the times that you are available and how you would like to help.
Membership – This committee is responsible for promoting PTA membership throughout the year. Membership promotes communication between parents and teachers, and gives the school a unified voice to influence legislation affecting children. Members make it possible for PTA to serve all children.
Newsletter – This committee is responsible for gathering information by established deadlines from other committees, administration and faculty for our monthly newsletter. Some members may also wish to submit monthly features for the newsletter.
Original Works – This committee is responsible for the Original Works fundraiser which will be held in the spring. This program turns the student's original artwork, made during art class, into professionally-made products such as magnets, cards, bags, ceramic tiles, etc.
Photography – This committee is responsible for being at grade-level activities to take photographs to share with PTA. One person is needed for each grade-level. If you are unable to attend, you may coordinate with room parents to ensure that the event is covered. Select pictures will be shared with the yearbook coordinator.
Public Relations – This committee is responsible for taking pictures at school-wide events and working with the PTA VP of Communications and administration to relay PTA-sponsored news to the media.
Reading/Tutoring Program – This committee connects students who would benefit from individualized help with parent volunteers. Tutors would work with flash cards, board games and reading activities. Volunteers are needed during the school day.
Reflections – This committee promotes and executes the National PTA Reflections Program during the fall. This program encourages all students to be creative in literature, photography, visual arts and music. All works are submitted for judging. Winners are submitted for county judging in January.
Special Education – This committee addresses the needs of diverse learners in the school by fostering communication and awareness of special education between the district, school, parents and children. The goal of this committee is to ensure that students with special needs are given the opportunity to participate in PTA-sponsored programs.
Spirit Wear – This committee is responsible for designing, ordering, selling and distributing spirit wear orders. They may also assist with promoting Friday Spirit Days throughout the year.
Spring Fling – This committee coordinates the PTA-sponsored events that occur during the Spring Fling, including planning the activities, food vendors, decorations, etc.
Veterans Day – Committee members will help the principal and PTA board members deliver a program honoring Veterans. This event will be held at the school in November.
Website – This committee will assist the website coordinator in maintaining up to date information on the website, and working with committee chairs to collect current news.
